Puzzle Organization-Update

Hope everyone out there is having a great Monday.  We are doing some cleaning and organizing around our house and I wanted to share how we organized some puzzles.

I decided to use some containers that I already had on hand.  I have been using them for craft and art supplies but I am going to be changing that soon.  So I decided these containers would work great for the puzzles we wanted to organize.

The puzzles are little 24 piece from the Dollar Tree.  I love buying these because they are only $1.00 of course!  The boxes they come in get worn out fast from being pulled out so much.  See the duct tape!

I knew these boxes would work just right for the amount of pieces and the size of the pieces as well.

Next, I cut the picture off of the box and used double sided tape to place on outside of the container.  This way, we know which puzzle goes in which box and how the pieces fit.

The only thing left to do was to put the boxes up into the closet.  Doesn't that look good?  So much better than torn up boxes with duct tape!

Have a great week everyone and take some Time to Organize!

UPDATE:  The double sided tape from Dollar Tree did not work.  So , I used clear packing tape and that is doing great!  Live and learn.

Pinterest Saturday

I hope everyone out there is having a really great weekend.  We just got back from the grocery store and man, I am glad that is done!  We are going to try and make it a goal in this household to get up earlier on Saturdays and try and hit the store before the crowds.  We'll see how that goes.  This mommy likes her sleep in Saturday time!  A lot!

Well, onto the Pins I really thought were awesome!  We are going to work on a kids artist display wall so I will show you a few that I really liked.  Plus, some yummy treats.  Enjoy!

New Chore Chart

Hello out there!  Hope everyone is having a great week.  We are having cooler weather here and I love it!  My daughter and I just made some apple cupcakes and the whole house smells applemazing!
Gotta love Fall.

Today I wanted to share the new chore chart I made for our oldest child.  This is a picture of the one I made a few months back.

As you can see it is very simple.  This has been working pretty well but I wanted there to be more details and a change in what he receives for chores done.

My son is a video game expert.  Computer, DS, phone, and whatever else he can play a game on, he loves it.  Mom and dad however do not love all the wasted time playing these devices.  We have been talking about changing the chart to where he not only works for a little money, but his game time as well.  I got the idea from my friend Claudia who has been doing this with her son.  I am not sure if they use a chart, but her son has to earn his game time and that is what I liked to hear.

So I decided to create a new chart and here it is.

All of the chores are the same.  We added earning game time and he still has the potential to earn money as well.

I really like this new chart so much more than the old one.  It just seems like I did a better job at creating it this time.  Maybe I am not completely hopeless when it comes to working on a computer.

Do you use a chore chart with your kids?  It is a great way to organize their time and for them to keep track of what they do to help around the house.

Thanks for stopping by today and take some Time to Organize!

Fall Wreath

Happy Monday!  We have had a great morning here.  My daughter's friend got her a build a bear gc for her Birthday and we just got back from getting it.  We all went to Build a Bear, had lunch and now the girls are playing with their bears.  What a wonderful gift!

I put together our fall wreath for the front door last week.  I didn't want to have to spend any money on this one but I ended up shelling out $4.00 for the ribbon.  Not bad at all.  Here is the wreath on our door.

Here is what I did to make the wreath.

I cut strips from an old t-shirt to use for the flowers.

I used a packet of orange kool-aid to dye the t-shirt strips.  Yep that's right!  I had it on hand and thought why not try it.  It worked pretty well.  I would have liked the color to be a little darker, but maybe next time I could just use two packets.  Oh, and no need to add sugar!  What is kinda funny is that, we really don't drink kool-aid.  I bought several packs long ago and am really happy I could find a use for them.

I wrapped half the wreath with twine and then made my flowers from the t-shirt strips.  I used small black pins to keep them on.

Here is my $4.00 ribbon from Hobby Lobby.  Not too impressed with my bow but that's okay.  I love the pattern!

There you have it!  My mom told me to finish the wreath and go all around with twine.  I like the half and half but maybe for later in the season I will change it up with more twine and some pumpkins.

Have a great day everyone!

Fall Mantel

Happy Wednesday!  The week is half way over and the weekend will be here in the blink of an eye!  Blink!  Well, almost!

I have gotten my Fall Mantel done and pretty pleased.  We will be getting a cold front this weekend.  So instead of 104 degrees it will be a cool 89 degrees.  Hey, it is cooler.  That is just Central Texas weather!

Back to the mantel.  I wanted to do something really simple and not spend alot of money.  I think I accomplished both those goals.

Let's start with the things I already had on hand.  The sign, doggie plate, pumpkin and frame.  The doggie plate is kind of put there in memory of our dog who we had to put down last month.  He had been with us for over 10 years.  When he was younger, he looked alot like the dog on the plate.  It is up there as a happy reminder of him and how wonderful he was to us.

I printed out a Fall Bucket List from Pinterest(http://howtonestforless.com/2012/08/17/fall-bucket-list-free-printable/) and placed it into this red frame with some tan scrapebook paper behind the list.

The orange vases I picked up at our new Goodwill Store.  I got both for $4.31.  I then got some twigs from the back yard and popped them inside.

So there is our Fall Mantel.  Simple and inexpensive just like I wanted.

A Grocery Shopping We Will Go

Wow!  That is a long title for a post, but I like it.

I don't know about you, but going grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do.  I love it when I get home and have everything put away, but just getting to the store and doing it seems like such a big pain.

I have come up with a few things that seem to work for us and make grocery shopping a little less painful for our family.

The first thing we always do is to make a list.  Whether you need 5 items or 50 I highly recommend having a list.  This way you can plan a budget, plan your meals, snacks, school lunches and never forget those household items that would always slip your mind if you did not write it down.

Second, I look for coupons.  Now, I am not a big coupon person.  We like to have certain brands and there are some that I have never seen a coupon for in my life.  But I am not willing to get some other brand, so I deal with it!  We do most of our shopping at HEB or Central Market.  HEB always has great deals and when we want a change of pace we head to a Central Market.  HEB does sell some Central Market brands and we do purchase these often.  Anyway, I clip coupons when I really see something I want or I just get lucky and find the brand I want.  I have a little coupon organizer I use to keep the coupons and I keep this in my purse.

Thirdly, we use reusable bags to put our groceries into.  I highly recommend keeping some in your car and some in your home.  I keep mine hanging on the kitchen door.  I haven't yet put some in my van, but I have talked about doing it forever!  Remember, I am a procrastinator!

When at the store, we move from left to right.  When we have made it all the way right, we are at the produce.  Next comes deli and meats, back of store is dairy.  Lastly we hit the frozen food which is at the front.  However your store is set up, have a plan of moving through it.  I like that we go back through the store for dairy that way if we forgot something on an aisle we get to pass it one more time.  This method really does save time and planning ahead always saves time!

When we are ready to check out, we place everything on the belt into groups.  Makes bagging for us or whoever is working there so much easier and faster.

Well there you go!  Hope some of these ideas will help make your grocery shopping easier and quicker.  I forgot to mention, having the kids help out in any way makes for a happier shopping experience as well!

1.  List
2. Coupons
3. Re-usable Bags
4. Plan for going through store
5. Group items at check out
6. Happy Dance!

So get out there and have fun shopping!

Pony Party

Well, our baby girl will turn 4 tomorrow.  Still cannot believe she is that old.  It seems like  the time is just flying by us.  We celebrated yesterday with a pony party at Kiddie Acres.  This is a place in Austin, Tx. that has vintage rides for little kids and ponies too.  All the girls got pink cowgirl hats and pink slap bracelets to take home.   Here are a few pics from the afternoon.
