A couple things done!

Hey there everyone!  Hope you are having a great week.  I started a new job on Monday and it has been busy around here.  It is only a temporary job position but I have enjoyed being back to work after four years at home.  Best of all my daughter gets to come with me.  Pretty nice.

There have been a couple of things I have been meaning to finish and I finally did tonight with the help of my husband!  Love that guy!  The first are some frames that I wanted to put on the wall in my kids bathroom above their towel hooks.  I took two IKEA frames that I already had, scrapbook paper and stickers that I had, ribbon that I had and picture hooks that we had too.

I bought two 8 x 10 pictures from Shutterfly and that cost $8.00.  I chose two pictures of my kids of them in the bathtub.  I had to put some color paper behind the pictures because they were not quite 8x10.  I used the stickers to place their names and a fun water related word in the upper corners.  The ribbon I used to hang from the picture frame hooks.  Here is the finished look:

My nine year old son was not thrilled with this and told me I have to take it down when his friends come over!  I cannot help it that picture is so fun and silly that I could not resist framing it!  I will try my hardest to remember to take it down.  It does accomplish my goal of not getting the towels mixed up!

The other project I wanted to work on was painting the shelf in my bathroom again.  I posted about this weeks ago but I just didn't like the way the paint looked.  I used some weird primer and spray paint.  Anyway, I wanted to use the paint I had left over from my pantry(which has really come in handy around my house) to re-paint the shelf.  Here is the shelf before the second repaint:

Now here is the shelf after I finished painting it tonight:
It has a more even look.  Very happy!

I did a little rearranging but not to much.

I added the big basket at the bottom to hold toilet paper.

I bought this container from The Container Store for cotton balls.  A whole bag will fit into this thing!  Woo-hoo!  I am hopping by putting it on the top shelf with my toner it will remind me to Use My Toner!!

I cannot wait to work on the walls in my bathroom.  I am thinking beadboard.

Have a great week everybody!

Pie Safe to Art Cabinet

So a couple of weeks ago I was looking at the iheart organizing blog enjoying all of Jen's amazing organization skills.  Lo and behold she posted that she was going to do a DIY Pretty Project challenge.  I knew right away what I wanted to do, my pie safe.  I have had my pie safe for years and it has housed everything except for pies!  Ha!  Anyway, I had started keeping my kids art stuff back in it a few weeks ago.  I wanted it to pop a little more because it is brown all over.  Here is a before picture:

Yikes!  Disorganized and dull.  So, I had found some containers at The Dollar Tree and wanted to use them for this space.

The containers are bright but I wanted to do something to the pie safe without going to drastic.  I decided to buy some really bright pieces of scrapbook paper and tape them on the inside of the safe.
This went okay but the paper was short in some spaces and I didn't want to have to cut and piece the paper onto the back.  I just didn't think it would look right.
I cleaned out the cabinet first.
Second I taped on the paper to the back inside of the safe.  I ended up using some duct tape because the tape I had wasn't working.  Don't judge, it worked!
I placed everything back in the way I wanted it and found new homes for what didn't make it back inside.

Here is the after:

Much, much nicer!

It does have the pop I was looking for and when I get bored with the paper I can just switch it out with something else.  This project didn't cost me a whole lot.  The green and yellow bins were $4.00 and the paper was half off at Hobby Lobby.  So $3.00!  I had everything else already.  Pretty thrifty!

At the top is scrapbook paper, pencils and coloring books.

The first shelf is paint, glue, plates, markers, stickers and etc. art goodies.  The middle shelf are things to make bracelets, crayons, candles and popsicle sticks.

The last shelf is scrapbooking stuff and other things to be creative.

Thanks so much for the challenge Jen!  I learn something new everytime I organize.

Cabinet Number 1

Well I finished the first cabinet.  I figure I will just go from cabinet to cabinet and if it needs an update I will give it one.  Cabinet number 1 I cleared out first, then painted with a fresh coat of white.

So, here is the before with all the stuff!

The picture on the left is before paint and the next two are after paint.

It's done!  Wow, so much better right?  I wanted just a few things in this area because it was too crowded!  On the counter is coffee, cups, sugar, coffee maker and filters.

I used my cake stand for the sugar, filters and coffee.  The sugar packets are in a little bowl I had and the coffee is in a new container from Target.  My husband told me coffee cannot be exposed to light or else it loses its flavor.  I don't drink it, so that was new to me!  The cups are placed underneath for easy access.

The coffee maker is right beside the cake stand and a larger container is next to that full of more sugar.  Yes, there are three different kinds of sugar here, but all organic.  Does that make it right?

The next two pictures are the inside of the cabinet.  Big improvement!!!!  Tea and extra filters are on this shelf.  Yes, that is kool aid in the corner.  I am trying to get away from buying that stuff.  The tea packets I placed into containers that I already had.  They are from IKEA.  Next two shelves are bowls, extra cups and some kinda coffee thing my husband keeps.  We do have more cereal bowls, but they were in the dishwasher.  Haha!  There were other items that found a new home or are waiting patiently for one.  All in all I am pleased with the results.

Stay tuned through the weeks for more awesome kitchen cabinet updates!  Woo-hoo!

What are you doing to make your kitchen look better or work better for you?  I would love to hear!
